Home What's New Rabbi's Article A Message From the Rabbi
Written by Rabbi Norbert Weinberg I am writing this message from Efrat.  I have just returned after a day in Geulah, a very religious section of Jerusalem.  The streets were teeming with people and cars, as the pre-Shabbat rush was beginning. There were also lots of wares out for Purim, including costumes and goodies for the mishloach manot baskets.

My schedule has been unbelievable, but instead of tiring me, it is actually a source of energy. The mornings and nights are quite cold (but not nearly as cold as Newton!) and the days are shirtsleeve warm.

The day after my arrival, two of my grandsons took me to Hebron. We visited the graves of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, as well as of Sarah, Rebecca and Leah.  In fact, we "davened" Mincha at the site of Sarah's grave.  There was also a closing ceremony for a battalion of soldiers, which was hugely inspirational. Of course there was a table set for them with delicious cakes and drinks. I subsequently found out that my grandson, Tzvi, was the instructor of many of them. Had I known that, I would have informed them of this fact and ventured to snatch one of those cakes. Under the conditions, they all had guns, so I thought better of it.

This morning, I had breakfast with Tzipora, my granddaughter, who is starting her army service this Sunday.  Tzipora is going to be a truck driver in the army.  I offered to buy her a ladder so she can get up into the trucks.

Yesterday, I had lunch with Arye Cheses, who, together with Nechama and Doron, is having a wonderful time in Israel.

There is so, so much more to tell.  The combination of being in Israel and surrounded by such a wonderful family makes me feel that this is about as close to Gan Eden as one can get in this world. Of course, I miss you all and hope that the above lines will give you just a hint of how wonderful it is here.

Shabbat Shalom!

Rabbi Norbert Weinberg
