Home What's New Rabbi's Article Greetings From Israel
Written by Rabbi Norbert Weinberg Dear Congregants and Friends,

2Jews_in_JerusalemHow can I describe the highlights of my visit when each and every moment is a unique highlight in itself?  This morning, my grandson Dani Eisenstock, drove me to the Kotel.  We put on our Talit and Tefilin and communicated with Hashem via a very "local call."  We then had a leisurely breakfast at the Rimon Cafe at the fashionable Memila Mall, overlooking Jerusalem.

Yesterday,  I joined my daughter, Shira, at the "Pinat Chamah" ("warm corner").  This is a resting stop for the soldiers, who are served coffee, tea, cakes and lots of other refreshments.  It is open for many hours each day and serviced totally by volunteers who come in shifts.  Donated boxes of delicious cakes arrive constantly.

I was brave and did some serving myself.  "Black coffee?", "Nescafe?", "How many sugars?", "Milk?"  I braved it all in Hebrew and wondered why a soldier gave me a big smile, waved and said, "Have a good day!" (in English).  I wonder what made him think that I know English.

Nechama, Arye and Doron Cheses joined us in Efrat last Shabbat.  In shul, I was asked to lead the Shacharit service and I even received "shlishi"!  But I used my "protekzia" and got Arye an "aliya", too.  Then we all had a wonderful lunch at Judy and Zalman's home.

The weather is beautiful - warm and sunny.  But we would gladly trade it in for some very needed steady rain.

Tomorrow morning, I am scheduled to have breakfast with grandson Yoel.  Then we are off to a family wedding in Bnei Brak.  Thursday morning, a breakfast is scheduled with the "three girls", which reads.... my three daughters here - Judy, Shira and Sharona.  No one dares to muscle in on that breakfast!

I came with two purposes in mind; to recharge my spiritual batteries and to reconnect with my family.  The batteries are already off the charts and the closeness with my family can't be more wonderful.  For me, Israel is as close to Gan Eden as you can get in this world.  There is so much to tell, but I have only been able to touch the "tip of the Weinberg"!

I miss you all - my extended family - and look forward to being back with you in a week.

Shalom from Israel   ......   Rabbi Norbert Weinberg
