Ronny Drapkin presenting award to Steve Cantor at 2010 Annual Meeting of the Adams Street ShulBeing President of a shul is a tough, thankless job. Some of you here, including myself, can attest to that.

It takes a certain type of person to navigate the daily workings of a shul. You have to be able to work well with others, to rally the troops behind certain projects, events, or initiatives, try to keep everyone happy and engaged; while at the same time juggle the ever shrinking finances, the occasional challenging personalities, and keep the big picture in mind – that we are a small, welcoming shul that thrives on diversity, hospitality and friendship built on a common spiritual views and respect.

Steve Cantor took on the Presidency of the shul during a very difficult time. He walked into the position knowing that it would be a challenging year. Our finances were stretched too thin. He had to figure out how to do more with less while preserving the unique aspects of the shul that make us who we are. Steve successfully renewed the Rabbi's contract, and with the help of Michael Froimowitz, made the painful cost cutting measures that had to be made in order to help put us on a firmer financial foundation.

In addition to doing all these things, Steve and Zhanna are among the nicest people you'll meet. Always pleasant, friendly, and welcoming, they make me smile when I see them in shul.

The Board and entire membership extend a sincere thank you for all you did this past year and hope that you will stay engaged in the years to come.

In recognition of your presidency, we would like to present you with the Appreciation Award.

Mazal tov!
